I'm taking a little break from the walls. I was getting a little bored, and also I need to take a break so I can come back and look at the model with 'fresh eyes' - that way I may be more likely to spot any problems. 'All' that needs to happen now is texturing the 'render' and painting.
So in the meantime, I'm messing about with some gladiators. I haven't done gladiators since I was at school. We went through a long phase of doing little else but play gladiatorial games. I suppose I want to re-live the fun of my (misspent?) youth! So I've bought some gladiators from Crusader Miniatures - they're very nice models. I have been looking at rules as well. I've got several sets of rules for gladiators - I've been wanting to do this for some time! My favourite, so far, is 'Morituri Te Salutant' from Black Hat Miniatures; they seem like very nice rules, though I'm not enamoured with the combat system just using hit points - I'd hoped for more detail - hit locations, detailed injuries, and the like. So I'm re-writing them to include a detailed combat system adapted and simplified from that in my favourite fantasy RPG, Harnmaster. The campaign game will include detailed rules for recovery from injury, for those gladiators lucky enough to survive. I will though, 'tone down' the chances of wounds becoming infected, so as to make survival more likely than it would be in reality (but it will still be possible to die of infection!). There will also be some simple rules for training and improving skills between games. The game will use some 'funny dice' (D20 and D100 as well as D6), which may not please everyone, but it makes the rules easier to write and the game quicker in play.
This morning's task, once I've done some dusting and hoovering, will be to carry on cleaning up the mould lines and vent tags on the figures. Without further ado...
