Roman Commanders

Roman Commanders

Here are the Aventine Miniatures commanders I mentioned yesterday.  I still have a few things to do - the general with the hoplon needs a more Roman-looking shield, which he'll get at some point, and once Steve at Little Big men Studios does some suitable transfers, the officer with the dead horse will get a fancier-looking shield.  I'm also thinking about making a couple of vignettes from some of the figures too - it's always nice to give an army a 'centrepiece' in the form of the general with a bunch of 'hangers-on'.

iPad therefore I am?

Sorry about the lack of updates - last week was a wash-out where hobbies were concerned, though I did get loads of other stuff done.  This week has been better, if still a bit busy.  I have almost finished my next batch of figures - Aventine Miniatures' Roman generals, and the two command packs of officers (RR40 and RR40a, and RR50 and RR51). …

Volscii

Volscii

Aventine Minatures 'Italian Hill Tribes' infantry, with Little Big Men Studios shield transfers.  I really enjoyed painting these figures - they're quite 'different' in appearance to the Romans, and also different to Greeks: a bit like a cross between the two, but with a character all their own.

The Eleventh Hour of the Eleventh day...

The Eleventh Hour of the Eleventh day...

If I should die, think only this of me:
That there's some corner of a foreign field
That is for ever England. There shall be
In that rich earth a richer dust concealed;
A dust whom England bore, shaped, made aware,
Gave, once, her flowers to love, her ways to roam,
A body of England's, breathing English air,
Washed by the rivers, blest by suns of home.

And think, this heart, all evil shed away,
A pulse in the eternal mind, no less
Gives somewhere back the thoughts by England given;
Her sights and sounds; dreams happy as her day;
And laughter, learnt of friends; and gentleness,
In hearts at peace, under an English heaven.

Jumbolicious!

Jumbolicious!

Here are two of Aventine Miniatures lovely Pyrrhic elephants.  I'm quite pleased with them.  They painted up easily, and I have a very good idea now as to the basic colour scheme for my Pyrrhic army.  It's all getting quite exciting.  I am really looking forward to whatever Keith and Adam dream up next!

Sorry I've been a bit quiet - life has been busy.  Last week was the kids' half-term holiday, which kept me busy, and we all went away, to Center Parcs near Penrith, last weekend.  I'm only just catching up now.

While we were away I cleaned up and assembled a unit of Aventine Miniatures' Volscians and two Pyrrhic jumbos.  …
