Hello everyone. I'm suffering - I've got the dreaded lurgy. I've basically been horizontal since I posted those hastati- on Friday I literally couldn't stand up - had to crawl to the toilet. I'm slightly better today - I've able to sit up for part of the day, and can bear the aches and pains so long as I'm thoroughly drugged up on Cocodamol. No painting or rule-fiddling has been attempted since finishing the hastati - lying in a heap groaning has required my full concentration.
Anyway, I thought that perhaps it was time for a review of my wargaming year. Highlights - things that stand out in my mind - meeting Harry Sidebottom (twice!) and Tony Riches; wargaming with the Nottingham Mafia and my figures; the demo game with Col at Partizan; 'finishing' my 'Fire in the East' project; getting started (at last!) on my Pyrrhic War project.
But I think the biggest thing that has happened is writing my own 'ancients' rules. And being able to play good wargames with them. I don't often have a very high opinion of my own abilities - I suppose spending a career working alongside people much cleverer than myself (Fellows of the Royal Society and the like) gives one a certain degree of perspective. However, it seems that I am equal to the task of writing reasonable wargames rules, even if I'm not going to win Nobel Prizes for physics.
Sorry, this is short - just typing this much has worn me out: I'm going for another sleep.
