Sorry, I've been a bit quiet lately. Lots to do, birthdays to celebrate, etc! Following my birthday, I am in possession of my new camera. Its going to take me a while to get good at using it - it's fairly complex. With my old S7000, there was basically just one 'right' way to achieve a particular result. With this one, it seems that there are several, each almost as good as the others - it's going to take a while to work out which is actually the best. I have taken, maybe, 100 photos with it so far - everything from landscapes to figures - two of the results are linked from the thumnbnails to the left. Not my best ever photos, but not bad either. I expect that, once I've taken a few hundred, I should be able to get better images than with the S7000.
The upper photo is the Third Century Roman slingers I painted a few weeks ago. The figures are A&A Miniatures whilst the slings themselves came from Gripping Beast. The 'bullet-bags' were cast by Matt of Elhiem Figures from a master I made. Transfers are the inevitable, and lovely, LBMS products.
The lower photo is of some more Sassanid cavalry - 'Savaran' noble cavalry from A&A Miniatures, riding un-armoured horses. There's some evidence for the Savaran joining in with the 'harrassment' of Roman armies at times, which is what these guys are meant for.
Paul Sawyer, from Warlord, has just sent me some of their new legionary slingers, which have, temporarily, usurped the Wars of the Roses on my workbench. They're really nice figures. Three different bodies (one kneeling, one standing 'loading' and one 'slinging') and six different arms - one thrusting with gladius, two with pila (one having just released), and three different slinger arms, at different stages in slinging. Clever, and plenty of variety. Looking forward to getting them painted up.
So that's about it for now. It just remains for me to wish you a very merry Christmas, and a happy, and wargame-filled, 2012!
