Lilia

DSCF0383

I have moved Macs - more on that in another post.  I thought I'd test Sandvox by posting a quick update - from my Scottish holiday at Easter-time.  This photograph was taken at Rough Castle on the Antonine Wall, and shows the 'lilia' (lilies), which were a Roman version of a minefield…  Imagine these holes with sharpened stakes in the bottom and camouflaged so you can't see 'em.  I'd never imagined they were this big - none of the photos I've ever seen before have any indication of scale.  My daughter is a shade under 5' (1.5 m) tall.  The holes are about 4'6" - 5' (1.35 - 1.5 m) wide, 2'+ (60 cm+) across and (when originally made) 3' deep.  Nasty if you're an attacker!
