Gosh, two updates in one week, whatever is the world coming to?
I am making some progress with 'things wargaming'. On my workbench, partly painted, is a 'cohort' of sixteen 'Palestinian club-men' for my third century Roman army. The figures are from A&A and are lovely.
We're going away, to Center Parcs, for a short break. In my bag are the parts for two Sassanid Jumbos (from Aventine Miniatures), a dozen 'medium' Sassanid cavalry, a cohort of 'lanciarii' and a 'cohort' of funditores (slingers), plus all necessary tools etc. to get them cleaned up, assembled and ready for priming. Hopefully, by the time we get back, they'll all be pretty much ready for painting.
Not that I'll be able to paint much when I get back - next Sunday is The Other Partizan MMXI at Kelham Hall near Newark-on-Trent. Paul Darnell (of Touching History) and I are putting on a game. There was an article in Military Modelling, in (I believe) February 1976, entitled something like 'Vespasian in Dorset', which gave a vivd account of how a Roman assault on a British hill-fort might have gone. I wanted to wargame it then. It's only taken 35 years, but thanks to Paul Darnell's skills and Warlord Games' figures, it looks as though it will finally happen...
I do need to write a 'supplement' for the rules though - nothing in there yet for siege assaults. I'm taking the files with me on my iPad, so I can do some work on the rules. I've still got lots of 'tweaks' to make too, based on suggestions from Rich of Too Fat Lardies after our game at Partizan MMXI.
But mainly the idea of the holiday is to relax - believe it or not. But I want to be sure I've got plenty to do if I get bored!
