Warlord Games Testudo
My iPad found a new aspect to its usefulness this week. I was trying to write a bibliography for AVGVSTVS to AVRELIAN. It's a job which is usually a pain - find the book, bring it to the Mac, type in the details, take it back, find the next book, etc. But with the iPad I can take the 'puter to the books, so writing the bibliography became a tour of my bookshelves, iPad in hand. It's very easy to hold it in one hand and type with the other too - which is an advantage over trying to use a laptop for the same job.
Paul (link) and I have begun to put a little bit of flesh on the bones of our idea for a demo for September's Partizan - Vespasian in Dorset. Sketches of possible layouts for the table are flying about, as are force lists. I suspect I may well want to build another testudo or two to add to the spectacle. I'm beginning to be able to see the layout, and the game, in my mind's eye - if it turns out to be half as nice as it looks in my head, it'll be great!
But I really ought to concentrate on matters nearer at hand... Rich Clarke and I are putting on another Roman demo, at the May Partizan show. This is probably going to be a battle set during the early stages of Agricola's move northwards towards what is how Scotland in about AD79. It's mainly an excuse to play a big game with lots of Romans and even more Britons. I need to make some new terrain boards - my present 'temperate' boards aren't big enough for a game this size. I haven't actually played a game with all of my Early Imperial Romans and Britons - the most I've used at any one time is about 2/3 of them. I may not use quite all of them this time either - I don't really have enough Britons to fight all the Romans I have. I'm unlikely to use my Praetorians too - no Emperor 'helping' in this campaign!
